Education on Safety through Clowning

Dee & Puff,

The 2007 S.M.I.L.E. Conference was held last week and part of the festivities are the Billy Awards.  The Billy Awards are given to articles written for the S.M.I.L.E. newsletter that receive the most positive feedback from members.  There are three categories: Best Clown Safety Routine, Best Puppet Safety Routine and Best Safety Article.  All articles submitted in the past year are eligible to win a Billy Award.

We are pleased to let you know that your article - "Know Your Bully" won the Billy Award for Best Clown Safety Routine.  Congratulations!

Your Billy Award will be mailed to you in the next week or two at the address we have in the database.  We have to make sure they are packed properly to survive the trip to my home and native land!

Dawson Trail Days – Ste. Anne – September long weekend

Dear Dee Dee:

Thank you once again for coming out with Puff to do the fire safety presentation as part of the children’s activities during our annual community weekend.

Your show was entertaining yet reminded the kids about fire safety prevention and the need to have smoke alarms and practice their home escape plan.

We appreciated you participating in the parade as well – I think it added, you added a lot of enthusiasm to the event.

Good luck with your future shows in the various communities.

Yours truly,

Thank you for your performance at our Fire Prevention Week Open House.  It really added to our program of events.  After the event during our discussions on how things went, many firefighters commented on how Dee Dee and Puff held the attention of the kids.  And I believe you did.  At home, later that day I asked my own kids and their friend that had been with them at the open house what they would do in a certian situation.  And they very quickly gave me the correct answer.  So, I must say that your presentation was effective in getting the fire safety message out to the kids .  They understood it, and remembered it.

Thank you for your work,
